BASIC
STRUCTURE
The school
is a live-in course that is arranged in two parts consisting of approximately twelve weeks of Lectures and eight to
twelve weeks of Field Assignment. The last part of the school is undertaken here in New Zealand and / or
overseas.
SMALL
GROUPS
Much of the
effectiveness of the course depends on participation in small groups. The purpose of the small groups are to:
| 1. | help the students understand and apply the teaching to their lives through group discussion |
| 2. | help the students learn to share themselves to get to know the group |
| 3. | provide each leader with the opportunity to get to know the group |
| 4. | help students learn to intercede effectively |
| 5. | teach the importance of small group life; especially by encouraging students in group participation and use of spiritual gifts |
| 6. | provide opportunity for learning in "workshop" situations. |
THE FIELD
ASSIGNMENT
The Field
Assignment (also referred to as the "Outreach") is regarded as a vital part of the training program.
This is the time when the students really "go on the stretch" to live out what they have learned.

The Discipleship Training School (DTS) for families here is held (lectures phase) in early August to late October each year at the YWAM-Family Ministries campus, Matamata. An eight to twelve week outreach will follow the lecture phase: Local and/or overseas Field Assignment locations will be decided by the school leader and staff:
The Field Assignment (outreach) phase starts late October.
These DTS’s are run together and are
for parents and single parents, couples and single folk who want to be with families. Students come, who want to
learn more about God and want to make Him known in their neighborhoods, in their towns and around the
world!
They focus on the students going deeper with God and provide a family friendly environment, with
Students' lectures and workshops mainly within the children's normal school hours. Most evenings and weekends
are free, apart from being required to help with some work duties. Students are encouraged to attend a local
church of their choice on Sunday.
Visiting speakers and DTS staff teach in the lecture phase of the DTS. Topics covered are: Knowing God,
Hearing God's voice, Building strong relationships, Father Heart of God, Families in Missions, and many, many
more.
We have a crèche for the 1 to 5 year old children in our Family Ministries Centre, run
by dedicated crèche staff. If your child needs one-on-one adult care, we ask you to provide your own nanny.
Older children join our Home School for supervision and need to bring school work with them.
New Zealand and Australian children 5 or 6 years and older go to local public schools or a Christian school - all in Matamata (see link)
